Chapter 1 Losing Grandpa

In a quiet and luxurious private birth center in North City.

Kira Perry's amniotic fluid broke, and she was waiting to enter the delivery room.

Two dedicated nurses were surrounding her nervously.

After quite a while, the elevator door on this floor opened. In anxiety, a middle-aged man and two bodyguards in black walked over.

The middle-aged man spoke to her polity, " Miss Perry, half of the promised money has been paid. This is the transfer record, please take a look."

Kira took it for a glance. It was a total of five million yuan, and the beneficiary was her father, Harris Perry.

The middle-aged man asked with a smile, "Can you get into the delivery room now?"

While her belly was throbbing, Kira knitted her eyebrows.

The middle-aged man added hurriedly, "Don't worry, as soon as the baby is born, we will transfer the balance to your father's bank account."

Kira touched her bulging belly and readily walked into the delivery room.

...

When Kira woke up, it was already the next morning.

The other party even offered to transfer her to a confinement center with top-class services.

At the sight of her flat belly, she felt hollowed and sad.

The cries from other babies came in from outside. Kira rubbed her eyes, took the cell phone from a nightstand, and gave her father a call.

The call was answered quickly.

She immediately asked, "Dad, 10 million yuan has been transferred to your account. It should be enough to pay off my brother's gambling debt. Can I visit grandpa now?"

"Kira, bitch, grandpa died of anger with you a long time ago!"

Kira immediately sat up.

Kinley Perry's sarcastic laughter came from the other end, "You think we don't know how you get the 10 million yuan? You sleep with men every day. Our Perry family is a noble one! Three months ago, grandpa died of anger after learning about you serving others as their mistress! So, don't ever come back!"

"I'm not kept as..."

Before she could finish her words, the phone was suddenly hung up.

She lifted the quilt and directly ran out.

The nurse outside the door hurriedly gripped her, "Miss Perry, where are you going? It's raining heavily outside. Since you just gave birth, you should rest properly and should not go out!"

Kira wouldn't listen, forcefully pushed them away, and ran out frantically.

Outside, the thunder was rumbling while heavy rain was scouring the ground unceasingly.

She was soaked by the rain by the time when she arrived at the door of Perry's house downtown.

She kept pounding the door.

A nanny went in to report, and in a short while, Kinley in a pink princess dress came out with the nanny.

"Kira, you still have the nerves to come back?"

Kira gasped and asked coldly, "Where is grandpa?"

"He is dead because of you!" Kinley snorted and said indifferently, "He insisted on going back to the shabby hometown where you were raised. I suppose weeds should have grown all over his grave now."

Kira clenched her fists, "Why didn't you tell me?"

No sooner had her snarl died away than she was shoved on the shoulder.

Thud...

She fell heavily to the ground into a puddle.

Large raindrops were pelting down on her face and body.

Still angry, Kinley walked up, lifted her foot on a high heel, and stomped on her face.

Paralyzed by the sharp pain, Kira lay on the ground, short of breath.

"Bitch, how dare you yell at me?" Kinley kicked her heavily several more times.

Too limp to get to her feet, Kira shivered with coldness.

Kinley grew more excited to see her like that.

She came to Kira again, squatted down, and pinched her face so forcefully that her long fingernails sank deep into her flesh.

"You're as shameless as your slut mother!" She spat in Kira's face, "In the past, you couldn't get into my house. In the future, don't even think about it. Even though you sold yourself to pay off the gambling debts for my brother, we can't take you in and tarnish our family! People like you are just lowly playthings for men!"

Kira looked at her with her brows knitting together.

Rain fell on her eyes, covering the redness and hatred in them.

Kinley shoved her face down into the puddle a few times before getting up and going back into the house.

The door closed again, leaving Kira in the cold with the freezing rain on her face.

Chapter 2 Picking up a Lost Child

Three years later.

In the old town of South City.

In a private Chinese medicine clinic.

After sending off the last patient, Kira stretched herself, got up, and took her leave.

It was dusk, and a red sunset covered half of the sky.

As usual, she walked back to her residence.

When she passed a bridge, she ran into a little guy sitting on the edge playing an airplane model.

The fence of the bridge performed practically no function, and a careless mistake would send the kid into the river.

She knitted her eyebrows and picked up the little kid without further ado.

Then two chubby hands warped around her neck. She lowered her head and saw a pair of dark eyes as big as grapes.

He blinked and opened his mouth, "Mommy."

Kira stiffened at the milky voice.

She was confined but had never seen her baby's face.

Her heart softened, and she smiled at him, "I'm not your mother, why are you here alone? Where is your family?"

The little guy pursed his lips and cried naughtily, "You're my mommy!"

Kira patiently explained, "I'm really not your mother, tell me where your family is? Do you have any contact with you?"

She fumbled through his body.

The kid lifted out his pockets himself.

The corner of Kira's mouth twitched.

He stared at Kira, pursed his lips, spoke in a distressed tone, "I don't have a mother, and my family abandoned me. Can you take me in?"

Kira scolded his parents in her heart.

She thought about it and suggested, "Human trafficking is illegal. Come on, I'll take you to the police."

Unexpectedly, the kid started crying as soon as her words came out.

His two chubby hands held her neck, and his fleshy face landed on her collar.

He choked with sobs in a sorry plight.

Kira's heart melted.

Poor thing...

"I don't want the police. I want to stay with you. I want you to be my mommy, take me home!" He threw a tantrum.

Kira knitted her brows between two fires and sighed helplessly after quite a while, "Alright, I'll take you home."

She didn't have the heart to leave him there, and he didn't like the police.

She had to take him back first, then asked for help, and looked for his parents.

Kira made up her mind and took him back to her house.

It was a one-bedroom apartment.

After entering the house, she wanted to put him to bed before lending her friends' help to find his parents. Unexpectedly, the kid followed her like a shadow.

Kira had to drop the idea temporarily. Allowing him to follow her into the kitchen, she cooked two bowls of noodles.

To her surprise, the kid was not picky about food. All the vegetables, eggs, and carrots were eaten while more than half of the soup was drunk.

Replete, he curved up his eyes and shouted in a milky voice, "Mommy, your food is so good."

Kira's eyes moved emotionally. She took out a piece of tissue and wiped his little mouth with a smile.

Then the boy once again followed her like a shadow.

Kira had to put him to bed with her best coaxing skills.

She took out a book and read fairy tales to him.

Halfway through the book, the kid still kept his shiny eyes open, but she was overcome with drowsiness.

Henry Myers held on to her arm tightly, and his big eyes glittered in the dark slyly.

Chapter 3 Picking up Another Child

The next morning.

After having breakfast with the kid, Kira called in her apprentice, Darren.

There were a lot of customers in the TCM clinic, and she was too busy to take the kid there. Without a choice, she had to ask Darren to babysit him.

She explained it to the kid.

To her surprise, the kid was well-behaved, even held her leg, and shouted in a sweet voice, "Mommy, I'll wait for you at home. I'll miss you, come back early after the shift."

Kira stroked his round head, "Okay."

She gave more instructions to Darren and then walked away at ease.

When she reached the clinic, there had been a long queue outside.

She was somehow worried about the kid at home and thus worked more efficiently than usual.

By noon, she already finished the work for today.

She closed the clinic and went off work.

She carried her bag on her back and quickened her pace toward home.

When she reached the very bridge she picked up the little guy yesterday, she suddenly saw a chubby figure.

A little girl wearing a pink plaid and two braids was sitting by the edge, dangling her fleshy legs.

A careless mistake would send her into the river.

A big question mark popped up Kira's mind.

Without further ado, she dashed over and picked up the chubby girl.

The little girl also had a fair, tender, fleshy face. Her shiny eyes blinked, her nose joggled, and her red lips were pursed pitifully.

As soon as Kira took her into her arms, she wrapped her chubby arms around her neck.

There was a sweet smell of milk on her body.

Kira immediately asked, "Kid, why are you here alone? Where are your parents?"

The little girl pursed her mouth, "I don't have a mother, and my dad abandoned me, boohoo..."

She narrowed her eyes and started crying.

Although her tears didn't fall, she looked very pitiful.

Kira's heart softened, and she asked again, "Where is your dad? I'll take you to him."

"I don't want dad! I want my brother!"

Brother?

Kira asked her again, "Where is your brother?"

"Boohoo... my brother said he would wait for me here..." With her small finger, she pointed at the spot where she just sat.

It reminded her of the boy she came across yesterday evening.

She asked uncertainly, "When did your brother tell you to wait for him here?"

She pouted, got a red nose, and sobbed, "Yesterday."

Uh-oh.

Kira offered to take her to the police.

Aggrieved, the little girl only wanted her brother.

Kira asked her and her brother's names. She was named Betty Myers and her brother Henry Myers.

Then Kira brought her back as well.

In the apartment.

As soon as Kira entered the door with the little girl in her arms, he saw Darren tied up like a dumpling.

He was playing a game with the little guy, and his face was covered with scrips.

At the sight of Kira, he called out like seeing his savior, "Master... finally you're back!"

Then he was struck dumb to see Betty, "Master, where did you pick up another kid?"

Before Kira could explain, Betty called out to the little guy in the near distance in a crispy voice, "Brother!"
